    Anyone try BRY-97 yet

To follow up on this, when I got home this evening the Bock was foaming away like a champ. That means it started in earnest sometime between 40-48 hours after pitching. Could have been the temperature increase, but it also fits in the 48 hour lag that a lot of people have reported. Either way, I...

    Anyone try BRY-97 yet

I'm doing my third batch ever so take all of this with a grain of salt (or a shaker) but here's what I observed with BRY-97 on a half batch of 1.071 OG Bock using maple sap instead of water. * Got a really strong smell from BRY-97 while rehydrating. It was fairly sour smelling. I don't remember...

How long will my keg carbonation last

You are correct, some will come out. Thankfully this will increase head space pressure, which will help hold the rest in solution. When you drop the temp again the extra CO2 will get pushed back in. And if course there's always your "drink it real fast" technique. :-D

First 5 Gal Batch, Pictures (I have questions)

If you happen to have a glass top stove you can use a razor blade to scrape off the real tough stuff. Also, your beer looks great! I have almost zero experience, but I'm still pretty sure that's a very nice start.

Just want to talk about my first brewing experience!

I wanted to check back in now that my beer is in the kegs. The actual process of transferring from primary to keg went very smoothly, although carbing has been a bit more of an adventure. I made a mess by overcarbonating the first keg, and the second keg is not yet carbonated so the only sample...

How long will my keg carbonation last

I just kegged for the first time (also first brew) and think that my experiences may be informative. My setup: * two 2.5G cornelius-style kegs * one faucet * one CO2 line I will be doing half batches so I want to be able to smoothly switch from keg to keg to keg, so I thought force...

Just want to talk about my first brewing experience!

Thanks, Dave. I've been controlling the temperature just by changing the thermostat. It's on the top floor so low 60's isn't too bad to keep the house and at night we just use lots of blankets. I could probably drop the temp another degree or two without any complaints.

Just want to talk about my first brewing experience!

Thanks, sweetcell and the_trout. I think I'll wait 21 after my pitch date because things got a slow start and then I'll start checking SG. In the meantime I'll occupy myself with gazing at the carboy twice a day (this is probably more effective on my first batch because everything is new and...

Just want to talk about my first brewing experience!

I just realized that when people asked about the recipe, they probably wanted more than the style. So, from the kit instructions: Fermentables ------------- 6.6 lb Light LME 1 lb Golden DME Specialty Grains --------------- 1 lb Caramel 40L 8 oz Victory (Steeping was pretty cool. Like a giant...

Just want to talk about my first brewing experience!

Wow! Lots of replies. :) I pitched "YEAST: 1 Sachet". :P I used the Brewer's Best IPA kit that was a christmas gift. I suspect it will be a little on the dark side of "P", but I know it will be lighter than it looks now. I'm afraid I don't remember the type of yeast that came in the kit...

Just want to talk about my first brewing experience!

I hope this is the appropriate forum for this, but I've already talked my coworkers' and SWMBO's ears off and I figured it would be impossible to talk too much about brewing here. I learned a lot about how to make the brew process more difficult for myself when I started on the 6'th. Boil...

A Pictoral how to brew an extract kit.

I read through a lot of threads here and read The Complete Joy of Home Brewing beginner's section a whole bunch before trying for first extract brew two days ago. I thought that I had a very good idea of what to do but ran into some procedural issues trying to get from flame out to pitching...
