What are your contrarian/"unpopular" beer opinions?

Session Pale Ales are great but agreed about Session IPAs. No balance at all.

LHBS Manager Here...What Do You Want From The LHBS?

When I order a grain mill at the end of June, I expect it to be there by the middle of February. Not the first time my LBHS's supplier had failed me and FB messaging my LBHS's owner just got me "I'm really sorry! I'll contact them tomorrow." Do act like my LBHS and give me a full refund...

What are your contrarian/"unpopular" beer opinions?

Totally agreed. I made an extract IPA that got a 30. The same all-grain IPA? 30. I've never tasted a twang. I think it's all in people's heads from hearing about it from other brewers.

    Idiotic/useless BJCP competition feedback

Forgot to mention, I saw this on the BJCP FB page and thought of this thread. I feel bad for the guy who got this feedback!

    Idiotic/useless BJCP competition feedback

The bit about your PA needing to be dry hopped is bullcrap. The judges are not supposed to make any assumptions about your brewing process or ingredients for this very reason. Any judge that does needs some refresher training in how to fill out a scoresheet.

Brewing an Hour from now, "Here is what I have"

I was listening to a podcast with the Brulosopher and he did an experiment with a 60 min boil and a 90 min boil with Pilsner malt in 2 otherwise identical batches. Then did a triangle test and nobody could really spot the difference. Would be a neat thing to try yourself! Edited to add- you...

    Rip - brewdog

Sorry man. Had to say goodbye to my own Brewdog on Saturday. Am making a Helles in her honor soon.

Stewarding for the first time.. what to expect?

When I stewarded, I was expected to fetch all of the beer that was to be judged at my table. The judges would ask for a beer by entry number and I would then get that beer out of the cooler. The judges popped the top and poured themselves. I was also expected to write down both judges scores...

    Cincinnati folks: Rhinegeist question

Rhinegeist is the balls. Also visit Madtree and Christian Moerlein if you get the chance. There are many other excellent breweries too but those are my top three.

Kolsch or Blonde - What Did I Make?

Having just run into this conundrum, I can at least narrow it down a bit. It's not a kolsch. If you didn't use Kolsch yeast it won't have the correct character. May taste great, it's just not a Kolsch! I used us-05 like Jamil's recipe said since my homebrew shop was out of liquid kolsch...

What came in the mail for you today?

A 4-pack of canned wort from Northern Brewer. I don't brew often so it's a great time saver for me!

The Misunderstanding of the World's Best Beers

Amen! I judged fruit beers last year and had a Belgian Dubbel aged on Sour cherries. Perfect balance of esters to fruit and It was so damned good and I curse myself for not asking the brewer for the recipe on the back of the scoresheet! Best beer I ever had, and I don't even like Belgians a...

    New Book

I'm enjoying it immensely. I like that he explains what he's going for with each recipe and what you can expect to taste so you know if you got it right. I'm planning on making a few of these once I start to get low on my Kolsch!

    It's a homebrew thing... you wouldn't understand.

I thought that was a squib.

    Competiion question

In the comps I entered, my beers and the rest were put in a foam cooler the day of to get them cool for judging. Beforehand though, I couldn't tell you but I doubt it. Temp controlled room is near certain but I doubt it's chilled.

    National Homebrew Day Giveaway!

Got my friend into homebrewing after he tried my IPA.

Fooled me once and twice. Shame on you both times.

Agreed. Sulfur is ok in small amounts in the aroma but not the taste! That brewer was an idiot.
