    Gravity at bottling

Not so, If the yeast has reached its attenuation then it's not going any further. That doesn't mean there are not moe fermentable sugars in it. You can put another higher attenuating yeast in it. Like I said a second ago, try Nottingham. That crap is a bastard. It'll eat your house if it...

    Gravity at bottling

It will be sweet... Try a stronger yeast strain t bring it down before you bottle. But it depends on the fermentables of course, but it since it is a kit I would think you have fermentables left. Get some Nottingham and throw in there. Seriously, if it is stalled, Nottingham will kick its ass.

Will filtering beer during bottling affect carbonation? (Pics)

In other words, if you are trying to filter it to the point to where it is as clear as a ****ty macrobrew then you aren't going to do it naturally. They get it as cold as **** to get all the particles to the bottom then they force filter it. Once they have a clear brew with nothing but alcohol...

    transfer to secondary airlock question!

If you added to secondary there is no need to put in more sugar until you are ready to bottle or keg. It defeats the purpose. The purpose of a secondary is for it to finish all the way off and make it more clear. In fact, if it a dark beer there is no need at all to do a secondary. You CAN...

What to brew with these hops??

Hallertauer is used a lot for wheat beers though. It's a not a strong flavor and it's not a very strong ibu. Whatever though, you can put it in whatever you want given the right quantities. ****. I threw some fuggles into my last batch of Hefe and it was one of the best hefes I ever made...

    Pitched yeast too cold?

I'd much rather pitch it on the warm side. That's me. 50-60 is way too cold to pitch imo. I'd rather pitch it when the wort is at 80 and let it come down naturally. That's just me. It's been my best results. It's best for most yeast in getting started and I fee that it doesn't make a huge...

    Capping issues

You cannot/should not cap screw off bottles. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Sam Adams has the best bottles. I almost think they WANT you to use their bottles. Their labels come off easily and every beer they brew is in a capped bottle. Plus they make some pretty good beers. I'm...

Getting Ready for First Batch: Ideal Carbonation Recommendations

The best thing you can do actually, if find out how how much carbonation you want then boil that amount of sugar in some water. Then either pur that sugar water into your main fermenter slowly and stir slowly, or put it in a bottling bucket and then slowly drain your beer into that. Either...

Getting Ready for First Batch: Ideal Carbonation Recommendations

What bottles are you using? It makes a huge difference. I have found that you can go over quite a bit without hurting anything but it depends on how much you let your beer age and how much sugar you put in. I know that others with disagree with me here and say it is not sanitary, but i have...

    Nottingham Yeast / Barleywine

I apologize for all my terrible grammar mistakes. I am just getting around to doing my good cleaning (after soaking) and I hate it so much I need to be drunk to do it. I'm sure you'll all agree. God, if it weren't for the cleaning brewing would be the best thing in the world... even then it's...

    Just starting my brewing experience

If you want to grow your own hops you better start pre-ordering now. They won't last long. Pre-order season has begun, they will be shipping in a month or two. Don't hesitate if you want to start growing hops this year. You won't really get much this year but if you wait until next year to...

Will filtering beer during bottling affect carbonation? (Pics)

Your type of bottle makes no difference. Plastic bottles are fine. They'll hold the C02 as wel as anything else if not better.

Will filtering beer during bottling affect carbonation? (Pics)

Filtering and natural carbing to not mix. It's pointless to filter it anyway if you are naturally carbing. No matter what you do there is going to be sediment. If you are going to filter then you want to filter first then force carb. That is the only way to get a crystal clear beer. Just make...

    Nottingham Yeast / Barleywine

OMG! I am in love with Nottingham. Prelude, I told Aaron, from Brewstock (in New Orleans) that I was going to use Nottingham for my first Barleywine ever. He thought that was a great idea but warned me I should use a blowoff tube. I should have listened. So, I started by batch with 14 lbs...

    Wyeast 1335 slow starter?

it turned out fine in the end. It ended up finishing probably at about .012. I can't remember exactly but I have never had a beer finish high yet. But yes it did take a while to see some activity. That being said I still prefer British Ale II over all.

    Empty beer bottles?

I dunno, I just bought Sam Adams for a few months and a few Grolsch type cases of bottles (500ml) from my LHBS until I built my keezer. Kegs only now, except I stash away a few 6 packs from each batch to take to friends. If I run out of bottles from friends I'll pay the 9 bucks for a Sam Adams...

    Water cooler Wort chiller/jockey box

As far as cleaning goes I always clean my mash tun and buckets etc. and run it through the wort chiller as a middle man. So I clean the tun with oxyclean type cleanser and flow that out through the chiller then into bucket. I rinse the mash tun out really well then run more clean water through...
