    Cheap compact wort pump

I think you are right. I'm fine being around 1 GPM, but I forgot to adjust for head.

    Cheap compact wort pump

What if I went with this tiny pump for mash recirculation and a little boost for a gravity fed immersion chiller? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EEIX8X0/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

Trying to make a "7." Dubbel and a half?

I think I get it, too much dark malt "weight." How about something like this? More pils, cut and swapped Munich for Vienna, more total basemalt, cut CaraMunich. 7# Pils 3# Vienna 1# Wheat 2# Homemade Amber-Dark Candi Sugar 10oz CaraMunich 6oz Biscuit 4oz Special B BIAB Mash @ 152F 1oz...

Trying to make a "7." Dubbel and a half?

I'm trying to draw up a beer that falls in between a dubbel and a quad for my next brew. After looking at a couple of recipes, skimming BLAM, and adding a little "just because," I have come up with this: All grain 5.5 Gallons OG: 1.070 IBU:25-30 4.5# Pils 4.5# Munich 1.0# Wheat 1.0# -...

Grolsh type swing top bottles + vacuum?

Maybe, but just because it can hold pressure doesn't mean it can hold a vacuum.

First go with a homemade immersion chiller

I gave mine a good wash with a tiny bit of soap and a lot of water to get rid of anything from the manufacturing process, but other then that it should be just fine. Some breweries use giant copper kettles so a little imerssion cooler will be just fine. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

What BIAB Efficiency Do You Get?

I read that tannins get extracted past 170* F, when you remove the grain from the wort it will quickly lower its temperature. I can't see the friction and pressure caused by squeezing the grain bag would raise the temperature faster then its falling. I guess if you are worried (I'm wouldn't...

Bottle now or give it an extra week?

3 and 1 it is!:tank: My mash was a little wacky and my OG was a little low (1.044) so my FG can't stay too high or else I'm stuck with beer that is a little too weak :drunk:

Bottle now or give it an extra week?

I checked the beer yesterday, and everything points that it is done except that the gravity is a bit high: 1.015 vs 1.011 expected. I may have thrown in one too many frozen water bottles in the swamp cooler towards the end, so I shook things up to see if I can get those last few points. Im cold...

I got here exactly the same way!

Bottle now or give it an extra week?

I brewed a pretty standard Irish Red and it has been in the primary for about 12 days. It hasn't had any airlock activity since the first few days and reading a little about S-04 dry yeast, I feel there is a strong chance it is done (I'm checking the gravity tomorrow). My question is, in the...

A few things I learned in my first BIAB!

I have no thick blankets but I put a couple of think towels on top and it helped hold the heat pretty well. Grain was double crushed (I lurk a lot!). I think I just need a little more experience with the equipment so I can get a little more efficiency, but more importantly at a consistent rate.

A few things I learned in my first BIAB!

I did my first BIAB about two weeks ago, an Oktoberfest with Notty. New pot, new burner, new chiller, first all grain, first BIAB, first mash, first 90min boil. I think I kinda threw myself into the wolves with this one. I just wanted to share a few things I learned. Hope this helps someone...

When are you considered *NOT* a newb?

I think you are a noob until you can repeatably make one great beer. I wouldnt say I'm good at this until I can make a couple of great beers. I wouldnt say I'm great at this until I have a mutiple-award winning microbrewery. At no point would I stop looking for things to learn.

Bare minimum to start e-brewing? e-BIAB?

The stove + element is for 5 gallon batches boiling 6.5-7 gallons of water. I think I didn't make that clear, sorry! On the stove I was able to boil 2.25-2.5 gallons, but it takes a while and I had to keep it on high. I think I'm over thinking this. There are a hundred ways to skin this...

Bare minimum to start e-brewing? e-BIAB?

Thanks for the help guys! I did a little math with a 14in diameter pot I get 1.5in per gallon. 2.5 gallon batch puts me at 3.75in which seems to be right around limit. With safety in mind, I think I'm going to go with a 120v first step build. My house has 20amp circuits and I have a GFCI...

Bare minimum to start e-brewing? e-BIAB?

I'm looking to upgrade from stove top brewing and start brewing on a permanent set up. I'm on a tight budget, but at the same time I don't want to buy/build anything that I'm going to grow out of. So, a couple of questions (a little long so bare with me :drunk:): 1. Whats is the bare...
