BIAB vs. Brewing with Mash Tun, Hot Liquor Tank, Sparging etc.

Not sure what you consider typical but I haven't had a problem with mash temp since I started wrapping my kettle with reflectix. OP, when I went all grain I decided on BIAB because it made the most sense for me. I didn't want to spend $$$$ on assembling a 3 vessel system when I could use the...

Is it the meter, or wrong calibration?

I'll have to take a look at it as it's only $20 more than the probe I need.

Is it the meter, or wrong calibration?

On Hanna's site the electodes are $59 I plan on ordering one in the next week or so. The thing that got me was it going up and up on my water and I panicked a bit , and then went on with my additions since I have a good water report (Wards). Mine is about the same age as yours and if I am just...

Needing some feedback on my first BIAB plan

I think you are overestimating your boil off rate. I have a Spike 15g kettle and I only have .5g/hr boil off. Do you have the time to do a practice boil with just water? If so, get a stick, I use a 1x2 and mark it at every gallon as put the water in. Get it to a boil and let it go the full 60...

    Best yeast for RIS?

I'm curious about this. I use this recipe Ten fidy Clone with good results and it finishes below 1.040 @ 1.030, in Beersmith in comes in @ 1.027. Not arguing just trying to understand about this

Is it the meter, or wrong calibration?

Yes I have a bottle Hanna's storage solution and use it. I really think that as you first said It is sometimes hard to read the pH of water alone, as it generally doesn't have many ions in it whereby to solidly buffer it at a specific pH, and the lack of ions also means there isn't much...

Is it the meter, or wrong calibration?

I use my tap water water as the only source for brewing and I'm not sure if the WC adjusts their water seasonally or not. I biab so no sparging for me. I just wanted to test my meter against tap water to see how well the meter did. When the meter went nuts, I panicked a bit thinking somehow...

Is it the meter, or wrong calibration?

I have started use a pH meter when brewing, and I had an issue brewing yesterday. Some background, I use a Hanna 98128 meter that is stored properly and have no problem calibrating. I also have Bru n' Water to use and a report from Wards. When I started yesterday and had the meter calibrated...

    Dark vs light cider

One was 1.072 (L) and one 1.076(R). You're correct about the yeast, it's hard to tell from the picture but the 775 is at the bottom of the carboy but is fermenting somewhat which I attribute to the temp in my basement (58 F).So I put a set of halogen lights close to warm the carboys up. As far...

    Dark vs light cider

Saturday I made two 5g batches of cider and the one on left has s05 and the one on the right has wlp 775. That's the only difference, is it caused by the yeast?

    Candied Pecan Hard Cider

I really want to try this but is there enough sugar in the juice/concentrate for the yeast?

    What am I missing

Just started kegging last week, so please bare with me. I know I need to have a "method" to clean my beer lines and I am considering something like this (http://www.homebrewfinds.com/2012/11/recirculating-draft-line-cleaning-build.html), but I keep reading about ball lock this, ball lock that...
