    Home Brew Store

I went to the one in Omaha that you are talking about. I will never go back. I had same experience as you. I now go to the one in Lincoln. It's a little bit of a drive but I can usually find an excuse to make the trip for other reasons as well and the guy there is extremely helpful and...

    Fermentation Time

Thanks for the replies. It puts my mind at ease. Hopefully life will slow down a bit and allow me to bottle soon.

    Fermentation Time

I have read posts about leaving the beer to ferment longer is not necessarily a bad thing. All my batches I have normally left 3-4 weeks before bottling and they seem to have turned out good. I have a cream ale that has now been fermenting for about 5.5 weeks. I am not sure I will have time...

    Cooling Soda

I made my first batch of root beer from a rainbow extract the other night. It has been sitting in my pantry for a few days now and the bottle is firm when I try to squeeze it so it makes me think that it is ready to go. So my question is how long does it have to be in the fridge before I...

    Fermentation Temp

Thanks for the responses. I will leave it be and let it do it's thing. I knew cooler was better and usually I have issues with keeping it cool. This is the first time that I have had a question about it being too cool.

    Fermentation Temp

I brewed a cream ale on Saturday evening. Everything went great and I know it takes time to show signs of fermenting. So at 24 hours after pitching there was no bubbling in the airlock. I know that airlock activity is nothing to base fermentation on. My question is on temperature? Where I...

    Shelf life

I had a light ale that I bottled last February. I moved in June and the bottles were stored in a garage for months. I drank the last few on New Year's Eve and they were the best I had. So not sure on how long they last but 10 months in not ideal storage situation didn't seem to faze them.

    Bottling Day Disaster?

I bottled my most recent batch last night. Everything was going smoothly until I transferred from the fermenter to the the bottling bucket. Transfer went great but when I set the bottling bucket on the counter to start bottling, I noticed I had a pretty good leak coming from the spigot. I had...

Moving! What can I do to pass the time?

I am a fairly new brewer with 3 batches under my belt. I had a good pipeline started and then we decided to put our house on the market and find a new house. I have to be out of my house in a week and won't move into the new house for 3 weeks. Since we started packing stuff up, I have been...

    Temp Control

So I have temp control taken care of. Time in fermenter is no longer an issue as I have a pipeline built up and no longer need to rush things. The last one is what I need clarified. I have been using dry yeast because I have been using extract kits and the yeast comes with them. I have...

    Temp Control

Well against my own words above. I am now a proud owner of a temp controller(found on ebay) and a chest freezer(craigslist, still in negotiations but I will wear him down and get it pretty cheap). So thanks for all the help with this situation. Father-in-Law is wiring it as I dropped out of...

    Temp Control

OK. Thanks for the responses. Brings me to another question. I think I have seen this on here before but where can I buy a temp controller for relatively cheap? I don't necessarily have to be cheap on; I can afford this but don't want to dump a lot of money into this hobby quite yet. I love...

    Temp Control

I have brewed two batches so far and have had great results with minimal temp control. I brewed them during the winter and the temp in my basement was low enough to keep the temps down during fermentation. Now with summer approaching I have a feeling that I will have a harder time keeping...

    Advice for the 1st Batch

That kit was my first brew as well. I left in primary for 3 weeks and bottled. Then left in bottles for 3 weeks. Threw some in the fridge and left for about 5 days before I tried it. Not too bad. I am now down to about a six pack of it left and I had a couple the other night and they were...

    Time to go Stainless?

What happens if you do a batch without the passive oxidized layer. I did my first batch in aluminum before I read about the oxidizing layer and I think it turned out pretty good although since it was my first batch I don't have anything to compare it with. My second batch I did with the layer...

    Pinterest....for homebrewing?

I have never dealt with it at all but as for my wife, she lives on it. Although she did say she was going to look and see if there were any designs for bottle labels she could find. Does anyone know if they have those?

    Couldn't keep my boil going

Thanks for responses. To be clear, I did cover to obtain the boil but uncovered after because I could tell there was chance for a boil over if I hadn't. It is strange though because for my first batch I had no issue and it was basically the same setup. Oh well. Live and learn.

    Couldn't keep my boil going

So I brewed my second batch on Saturday night. It was a Brewer's Best American Light extract kit. I started by boiling 2.5 gallons of water then added my LME. Things were going well. Then I added the hops and all of the sudden, I lost my boil, as in I couldn't make the wort boil. I boil on...

    First Brew Success

So despite all my concerns that I had done something to screw up my brew, I bottled my first brew about 10 days ago. Just out of curiousness and my unwillingless to wait for the whole 3 weeks to let it condition I threw one bottle in the fridge and let cool for a couple of days. Popped it open...
