    Nuts in Mead

I've tried both pecans and walnuts, and the jury is still out on the success of both. For both meads, I made an extract. I chopped up the nuts, but them in a jar and filled to just over the top of the chopped nuts with vodka, and let this sit for at least 2 months in the fridge (shaking...

    Cost per 1gal batch

The commercial meadery near me charges $24-$29 US for a bottle of his mead. Last I tried to calculate, I was down to about $5 a bottle in overall cost for my meager attempts. (And I don't begrudge the guy for charging what he does for his commercial mead...it's darn good! I try to buy from him...

    Smoked Honey Mead

I did a smoked braggot using cherrywood smoked malt with wildflower honey, finished carbonated. Final gravity was 1.020 and had a decent head. It was absolutely delicious. I'm sad I only did one gallon. Time to get bigger beer brewing equipment! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Home Brew mobile app

    Cheesecake flavored?

Perhaps you could approach this in the fashion of a braggot, but only using milled whole wheat. I might add some vanilla extract (or a split vanilla bean), a smidgen of cinnamon and small amount of molasses, dark brown sugar, or buckwheat honey, and some orange zest. I might also use a light...

    jaom taste question

I think JAOM is delicious. Don't be turned off by what you tried. I think the sediment gave you off flavors. JAOM doesn't really need to age. Well....mine don't last long enough to be considered "aged". Sent from my SCH-I545 using Home Brew mobile app

    Queston on a blueberry melomel

Well, there is evidence that antioxidants are prevalent in red wines. That would lead me to believe that fermentation will not hurt the beneficial antioxidants in blueberries. I have no science to back this up, though. That said, acid is a good idea in your recipe. The blueberry melomel I...

    Dry hopped mead

It's my understanding (and I have very little experience with brewing beer), that the bitterness in hops is imparted with boiling. The longer it's boiled, the more bitter it is. I talked with the owner about this mead. There was no boil involved. He just dumps a boatload of hops in, lets it sit...

    Dry hopped mead

Crafted Artisan Meadery makes a dry hopped mead that's really tasty. Called Hop Nectar. http://craftedmead.com/crafted-mead/ It's on my list of things to try. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Home Brew mobile app

    Buttery mead???

Maybe add butterscotch syrup when back-sweetening? I'm adding this to my list of future experiments. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Home Brew mobile app

    Smokey recipes

I did a Smoked Braggot that came out quite nice. This is a 1 gallon batch. I plan to do this again this year, and tweak it. It was a little sweet, and I want to experiment with the hops a bit. 1.5 lb orange blossom honey 0.2 lb buckwheat honey 0.65 lb Dry amber malt 0.55 lb smoked malt...

    Mead won't clear

I had it outside in below freezing cold for two weeks. Nothing dropped out of suspension. Filtering did the trick. Whatever it was that the filters snagged looked like...well..dirt. Not yeast, not pectin. The worst part was that using such a large filter three times resulted in a loss of...
