Lacto starter with yogurt no activity

I did not add anything else. This is my 2nd try because my first one was put on a stir plate but I did not add acid to it. It showed activity very shortly, the overall colour turned opaque beige. The reason why I made the second one is because I can't determine if it smells good or not... I...

Lacto starter with yogurt no activity

In fact, adding acid step was referring to the whole batch, so I assumed it could be helpful for the starter too.

Lacto starter with yogurt no activity

I used MTF process, combined with gathered info here and there. Many processes I read say to add a bit of lactic acid to lower ph in order to limit other bacteria growth. I added the less mesurable amount possible. The yogurt is fat free. With acidophilus, bulgaricus, strepto thermophilus and...

Lacto starter with yogurt no activity

I used plain greek yogurt from costco which has, according to ingredients list, lacto strains supposed to give good results. I will wait another 24H, measure the PH and taste a sample.

Lacto starter with yogurt no activity

Hi, I made a 1L lacto starter using yogurt as suggested on milk the funk wiki. I added 1ml of lactic acid, purged with co2 and put an airlock on the jar. The starter is maintained at 104F in the fermentation chamber without a stir plate. 24h later, there is no visible sign of activity. There...

Harvested "wild" yeast resulted into... normal beer

After 2 more months, it won 2 more points (1.004). I decided to keg and bottle.

Harvested "wild" yeast resulted into... normal beer

I will bottle condition some of the batch to see how it turns in the next few months. Maybe there was some commercial yeast in the air while I did my dme-wort in the kitchen but I don't brew my batches there. I don't open any bottles there too (kegs are in the basement). I plan to keg/bottle in...

Harvested "wild" yeast resulted into... normal beer

I used cleaned and sanitized mason jars that have never been in contact with any yeast strains ever.

I'll wait until the next keg is empty and see how it turns..

Harvested "wild" yeast resulted into... normal beer

Hi, I harvested wild yeast from my backyard, following the article from the homepage, with success. I built a starter and brewed with it (all-grain), from 1.060 down to 1.006 after 2 weeks. My only concern is that... it tastes like if I used US-05 or some other commercial yeast. I was...

    Harvesting Wild Yeast

I did it on last Wednesday and got a Krausen 3 days later (1/4 inch of foam) and it smells like beer so I assume I captured some good yeast! Next step is to transfer to my stir plate in few days and brew with it! Thanks for the article, very helpful!

    Fill keg and leave aside

I carefully listen for "hssssssss", sprayed the lid and posts for leaks and did not notice any leak. I let the pressure to 12psi and plan to disconnect it in 1 week to see if the pressure is kept.

    Fill keg and leave aside

    Fill keg and leave aside

Hi! I did my first keeging yesterday but I still have a question. I added priming sugar, pressurized to 30PSI and purge 2-3 times, pressurized again to 30 and disconnected the gaz line. I verified for leaks and left the kef aside. This morning, the keg is no longer pressurized. Is it because...
