Thanks, that is very helpful. So for the Oberon clone, bring the decoction to a boil then add back to mash? Should it be boiled for any length of time before adding back?
Can someone please give me a quick rundown/procedure for doing the decotion on this? Never done one and I want to make this beer. Do you pull off 12 pints of liquid only from the mash? And then do what with it? Boil for a period of time and then return to the mash?
Thanks for the replies. It was at about 75F and I did not stir it, so that is probably the reason. Its is fermenting very well right now so I'm sure it will be fine.
I brewed my second batch tonight and the SG was 1.026 but was supposed to be 1.042-1.046. I don't know of anything I did wrong, everything went well. What could cause this and should I be concerned? Just a medium ale kit from Midwest. (Excelsior Altbier).
I have my first ever batch in the secondary now - an amber ale. I used a plastic bucket for the primary and 5 gal glass carboy for secondary. So it was easy for me to take the hydrometer readings by just sanitizing and dropping it in the bucket.

I just drilled my holes in the Kenmore 4.9 cuft frig I bought last week. The top was easy as it was no problem to find the coolant line running across the top by feeling for the heat.
I am also placing the CO2 tank outside the frig and drilled the gas line hole in the back of the frig in...
Good timing on this post. I just racked to secondary tonight. I plan on leaving it for at least a week before kegging it. Its my first batch and I am hopeful that I did everything correct. So I have at least a week to get my kegorator set up.
Used my autosiphon tonight for the first time racking to secondary. Absolutely no problems. Just get one. Mine came in the equipment kit I got from Midwest.
