Not to jump in the fray, but hot plates are designed to direct heat flasks. (What else would they be used for?) User error is the issue if you're breaking flasks (or very poor quality flasks). You will have issues if you crank the thing on high and expect it to just heat up quickly without a...
Not sure if it was mentioned but Strangelove's is pretty good in between walnut and locust on 11th street. Relatively new place but a pretty good selection and 2 rotating cask beers. Also a very relaxed atmosphere especially upstairs.
I have a one gallon batch and the sediment takes up 1/3 of the jug. Should I expect that loss or how could I maximize the amount I get out of it?
What do you guys think about putting the mango pulp in a mesh bag inside a bucket to ferment? And then remove the bag before siphoning to a glass...
Hey Josh, I recognize you from somewhere... Shenanigan=usrower
Moved downtown recently (west washington square) and just brewed my first IPA in my kitchen. Old electric stoves can push out a lot of heat which surprised me. Don't need a propane burner. The ferm fridge was an essential though.
Brewed AHS's Budget IPA (partial mash)... Came in too low on OG possibly due to volume. Their crush was pretty bad too. I looked at the spent grain and found a ton of whole grains.
We'll see how it turns out in a few weeks...
Holy crap! Did you put the 6 cups of sugar in?
I used mango nectar with 4 cups of sugar but added yeast energizer on top of the nutrient with a half pack of red star premier cuvee. It's chugging away with a bubble every other second at 65*. Might ramp up the temp a bit over the next few days
Has anyone tried this with mango nectar? I recently bought some from Costco thinking if it doesn't taste good I'll just ferment it! Well it is waaay too sweet to drink so it's wine time.
If no one has, I might just use the regular recipe then top off with this.
You can do that if you get an adapter that matches your faucet (bring your faucet screen in to match at a big box store) that goes to a 3/4" fitting and then get a 3/4" hose fitting to 3/8" barb. They sell plastic ones for like 2 bucks in the garden section or a brass one in plumbing for around 10
I only had 6 and I tried multiple times. I put a ton of force into it and the caps just didn't look right so I didn't want to risk wasting the beer if they weren't sealed properly. I think it's just that the second lip the capper grabs onto is too high. It isn't the end of the world...I thought...
Delabeled and cleaned some Sierra Nevada bottles. Discovered last night during my first bottling that the Laguinitas stubby bottles can't be capped with the red beauty/barron capper but Sierra Nevada's can.
Bottling my American honey orange wheat tonight.
