We're veering way off topic here, but the point of StarSan is that you reuse it extensively. As long as the pH is in range (<3 I think? Can't recall for sure) I'll make a 4-gal batch of sanitizer (takes <1 oz, so ~$2), and will use it for months and months. Dump it into the carboy, dump it back...
I only have used the MM2-2.0, so I can't compare to anything else. I've been happy with mine. About a year ago I did some fairly extensive research for my mill purchase, and I concluded that the MM is probably the best choice.
I think if I were to do it over again the only change I'd make is to...
Hi all,
When I clean my carboys, I usually just use the same sodium percarbonate solution to clean off the carboy cap as well. But with the last RIS, I had a pretty big blowoff, and the cap is rather grody looking.
Just curious - would this thing get all fouled/distended if I threw it in...
Alrighty so not to belabor my stupidity, but about 5 ml of Miwaukee pH electrode cleaning solution ended up in my mash (!)
Trying to figure out if this is game over for my brew or not. The MSDS is entirely unhelpful, except to say "non-hazardous".
Any safety & health concerns? Thanks!
OH I see! So the thing doesn't become a new cap for the carboy, it's just a little thing that goes into the airlock port? That will be just fine then, as you say I could use the thermowell bung and the BeerBug at the same time. Thanks for the info.
Right, but the thermometer that goes with it can't send the info to an external controller to raise or lower the temp, right? That's what I want to do - use the BeerBug for informational purposes, and still be able to have a probe from another unit (a temperature controller) to adjust the...
Hi Brewers,
I've been looking at the BeerBug, and was considering putting it on the Xmas list as a fun little item of brewing hardware that I wouldn't spend my own money on.
As I understand it, this device strictly transmits information and doesn't provide any sort of control (which is...
I'm about to pull the trigger on the same purchase. My only drills are 3/8 and probably are too high speed/low torque anyway. So as part of the overall mill investment I'm going to buy this Harbor Freight 1/2" drill. It's reasonably priced and pops up over and over on mill threads here at HBT.
I routinely do an extract beer based on the information in this thread. You want to talk about knocking out a batch - how about <2 hours start to cleanup?
I like this approach because I can fit it in on a day that I don't have really available to dedicate to a brew day. Most of the time it's...
Howdy brewers,
So I think I've decided that my next acquisition will be a mill. For many years I've been using the big ol' mill at the LHBS, and I'd like to take more control of things (plus my efficiency has gone to hell lately and I'm thinking it may be the mill...)
Anyhow, I've mostly...
