    Home Brewing = Saving Money?

I'm serious alright. Portland, Maine makes the best beer in the world, IMO. I drive up to Maine 3-4 times a year for beer. It used to be 5-6 times a year but now that I have some good clone recipes and it's starting to make it's way down here (and Portland is getting pretty expensive) I've been...

It really depends on what I'm making / what you like to drink. My two favorite IPAs are Bissell Brothers' Swish and Maine Beer Co's Dinner which requires a drive of 1000 miles, at least two nights in a hotel (could do it with one, but I'm not that young anymore), food, gas, etc....plus the cost...

On the way to Portland....Madden Beverage in Saco. They almost always have a ton of everything from all over New England. As I hear it the owner is the brother of the brewer at Lone Pine and they usually have their best beers when you can't even get it at the brewery. Again, not far off of 95 on...

LOL...nah, ran outta money. :-D PA wasn't exactly progressive when it came to...well, almost anything, alcohol specifically. A couple years ago they finally made it legal to bring in alcohol from out of state. Before that I could bring back maybe 6 or 7 cases. Now I can bring back that counterful.

    Consistently disappointed with hop aroma

It sure looks like you're doing everything right for that style. All I can think of is that it was an early sample. Also, don't get hung up on trying to duplicate the greats of the style. Closed transfers helped out my beer quite a bit and sometimes I can smell it as soon as I start pouring but...

Hell yeah! And you don't have to keep it below the window level anymore!

What's your carbonation like? I didn't really think much about it until I entered a competition and the feedback was "glad the carbonation was high, the great hop combination jumped out at me". It was pure luck but ever since I tend to slightly overcarbonate NEIPAs.

Definitely Pizza Boy / Al's of Hampden in Enola, across the river from Harrisburg. Good beer and food. I like Zeroday Brewing in Harrisburg, too.

What are you listening to (music!!!) right now? Embarrassing or not... share

LOL! Very nice! I actually like a lot of stuff but one day I was driving to work listening to Lithium on Sirius and Pearl Jam came on. They have their own goddamn channel, why are they on every one else's channel too? So I started flipping between channels and came across LL Cool J's channel. I...

    Calcium Chloride and Gypsum

Nice, thanks! I just started adding salts to the sparge water (been using straight RO the past couple of years) with the thinking that if the pH is in check, I can sparge hotter. Went to a pH of 5.3 and temp of 172 this time around and it's bubbling away in the fermenter. It'll be interesting to...

Simple trial and error, or waste of time?

Agree with the above. Check or ask about how long they've been sitting around. If not too long, go for it. LME can make good beer and yeah, it sounds like a great way to experiment!
