Sorry to necro this thread, but is this still the best go to guide for learning how to create your own recipes?
I'm in a similar situation the OP was in. Made a few extract kits and clone recipes. Looking to broaden my understanding of what ingredients impart what flavors and so forth and...
I see. This is the total of everyone on the forums here. I shall add my brews then.
5 gallons American Amber
5 gallons Liberty Ale clone IPA
5 gallons Pumpkin Porter
5 gallons Fat Tire clone
40840 + 20 = 40860
So I attempted a Liberty Ale clone. It turned out pretty well except that the back end is a bit harsh. It's bitter, but not in a good hoppy way, it's distracting from the rest of the good taste. Here is my recipe:
Malts:
1. Munton's Light LME 6.6lbs.
2. Brewers Best Golden Light DME 1...
While I can see where OP is coming from. Sometimes BA reviews are really helpful. For example:
A week ago I was in this great little bar in Pittsburgh called Sharp Edge. They have tons of craft brews. Somewhere around 30-40 beers on tap and coolers and coolers full of bottled beer (I didn't...
What size CO2 tank do you suggest for a 5 gallon keg?
What does it cost to get said co2 tank filled?
Am I best off buying a keg that comes with all the connections I need with it like this one...
The IPA was dry hopped. I don't strain my wort when it goes into the fermenter either so all of the hops from the boil were also in the trub. I don't know if that's what the issue was or if I just used too much of the trub and not enough sugar/water/flour.
I'll have to try again with my next...
So I tried this recipe with two different flavor trubs. Both of them turned out bitter as all get out. Both loaves were so bitter that I threw them in the yard for the birds. The IPA loaf was more bitter than the pumpkin porter loaf, but they were both pretty inedible. The consistency was...
So what brewing related gear is going to be on your Christmas list?
I think mine will include a new turkey fryer setup and the supplies for a DIY mash tun.
Got two flavors of starter going right now. Pumpkin porter trub and IPA trub. Got the supplies today. Gonna do some baking tomorrow morning and I'll report back with my results and maybe some pictures.
Well I stopped by Brewers Art after the Louis CK show and it was so busy both upstairs and downstairs that I was annoyed within seconds of being in there. Never got to taste a single beer.
The building was nice though.
True or false? Brewers Art is just a few blocks east of the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
I'm riding into Baltimore tonight for the Louis C.K. show at the Meyerhoff and I'm looking for a good place for pre-show dinner and beers.
