How old are you? How long have you been brewing?

25, been brewing for two years.

    Who do I listen too....

Holy crap, I didn't even know there was a yeast manufacture date in BS. Never thought to open up the yeast ingredient tool. Well that fixed it, it was set to 2011.

    Good Question? Hopefully

If doing a no sparge mash, I would add the hops at the end of the mash. Then based on your previous brews where you did sparge, take that time to let the hops sit. So if you normal sparge time is 40 minutes, let the hops sit without any heat for 40 minutes. Maybe add a slow stir every minute to...

    Who do I listen too....

I have a related question to starter sizes in BeerSmith. Under recommended size for liquid starter, it says number of packets. For a 1.056 Ale it recommends 8 packets in a 1.38L. Is it saying to use 8 vials of WLP? That's $60 worth of yeast, and a little ridiculous.

    WLP565 Insane Fermentation

Never have I had a beer release so much CO2 during fermentation as I have with this yeast. Must be the pumpkin, but this is just insane. Normally with a blow off tube it's a bubble every two to three seconds, this is just rapid fire. Enjoy. Mega Fermentation

    Spices for a winter ale

Just finished my Spiced Pumpkin Ale. Has Vanilla Bean, All Spice, Nutmeg, Fresh Ginger and Cinnamon in it. Mostly all 1/2 tsp for a 5.5 gallon batch.

    Mega stuck sparge

So for anyone as curious as me about how my SG turned out after a mega stuck sparge. I was aiming for 1.050 and got 1.043. After boil had 5 gallons added .5 gallon to get my standard pre-ferm volume. Spiced Pumpkin Ale smells delicious, can't wait to get it in the bottle.

    Mega stuck sparge

PVC Manifold. It's the pumpkin purée that stuck it, me being a idiot got cocky with this batch.

    Mega stuck sparge

Well it took 25+ brews to happen and when it happened it happened bad. Stuck to the point of not coming back. So some quick thinking I thinned the mix and busted out the colander and coffee filter and manually filtered til clear. Now my back hurts. Next time I'll get rice hulls. Curious to see...

    First Brew Day tomorrow.... HELP!!!

Generally on my brew days, everything goes into the sink to wash off dust with warm water. Then I fill my bottling bucket with warm water and StarSans, and place everything I'm going to use in it. When I'm ready to mash I move the water into my Tun and use a paper towel to get in every nook and...

    Beer and Wein Label

Just got the labels on the Aurora Borealis, and waiting on bottles so I can bottle EdWort's Apfelwein. Thought I would share what I have going on to the bottles. Enjoy.

    Using Lactase

For my last brew day I had my girlfriend go get the ingredients at the LHBS while I was leaving work, and while wondering around the shop she saw a cheese making kit. Well I think soon, we'll start making cheese at the apartment. Currently my girlfriend takes Lactaid pills when she's feeling...

    Drink Tickets

I find drink tickets and over planning equals a boring party. The responsibility falls on the drinker choosing to take a cab, but not to say you cant influence the drinker not to drive. Just something to remind your drinking friends that Arizona might be a .08 BAC state, but they can still get...

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Fireslayer do you keg or bottle? Curious because mine has no head retention, but it is still fairly young in the bottles. Super tasty though.

Filtering Wort from Boil to Primary

I use hop pellets directly into my kettle without a bag, so when I transfer from kettle to carboy I set a mesh food strainer in my funnel to catch all the hops and any grains that got sucked through my manifold. Before I used to leave about 3 cups of wort behind in the kettle, now I get every...
