    LALBREW® VOSS KVEIK ALE YEAST

Quick update for anyone interested. In 48 hours @ constant 95° S.G. dropped from 1.078 to 1.025. Underpitchd 6 grams in 5.5 gallons with 4tsp of Fermax. I had activity in the blowoff within 3 hours. After 2 days, activity has slowed, but it's still sending bubbles from the bottom. I switched...

    LALBREW® VOSS KVEIK ALE YEAST

I've read that even though Voss may hit terminal gravity within a few days, some brewers have gotten good results by giving it two weeks. Maybe it works similar to more familiar yeasts in that it spends the additional time cleaning up and flocking.

    LALBREW® VOSS KVEIK ALE YEAST

I bought his book. It's a good read, especially if you like traveling. Also interesting the differences in how the traditional farmers brew and what they put in the mix. Did my first Lalbrew Voss today. Went with an IPA. Pitched 6 grams on 5.5 gallons of 1.078 wort at 94°. I've got a...

Keezer Not Cooling - Repair or Replace?

I'm experiencing the same problem and glad I found your update. I'm wondering if you bought the R134 with sealant or without. Thanks.

How do I keep a 19 year old out of my beer?

Time for your wife to put her foot on her brother's throat. Otherwise, pop the disconnects and get a big chain and padlock to keep him out until you are there to supervise.

CO2 and cold crashing before bottling?

I've been cold crashing and kegging for years. Before that I bottled a few batches without cold crashing. I have 10 gal. of an 8% ABV robust porter (currently fermenting at 69°) I need to bottle for an event in October. The Brewer's Friend priming calculator says its accuracy can be affected...

Why are drip trays so expensive???

I routered on ogee edge on a 1x4, stained/lacquered it and mounted it to the face of the keezer with JBWeld epoxy. Then I used 1/2 in. screws to hold the trays. The trays slip on and off for cleaning. I've had four full pints under the taps without any problems. If you do this, be sure to...

Temp of secondary when adding Campden and sorbate?

RPh Guy: Thank you for the wonderfully detailed answer and for doing the math for me. Yooper: Thank you for the reply. That's what I did last time. I thought it had completely fermented out and I had racked off the yeast. Friends thought is was great, so I entered it in a couple of...

Temp of secondary when adding Campden and sorbate?

I'm cold crashing (40° F) 4.5 gallons of hard apple cider before racking it to the secondary. I plan to add potassium sorbate (2.5 tsp) and Campden (.25 tsp) to the secondary before I add pomegranate juice. It will be kegged and force carbed. Questions: 1) are the sorbate and Campden...

    Hazy ipa

Looks like you need to clean your air lock and refill it with a sanitary solution.

    Keezer bottom is disgusting

For what you'd pay on two rentals, you could probably just buy a shop vac and then you wouldn't be bringing someone else's nasties under your roof. I treat the interior of my keezer the same as my other brew equipment. Once in a while when I finish cleaning kegs, I wipe down the inside with...

    Need chest freezer information

Welcome to the forum, Joe. I'm a guy who loves old stuff, but in this case, I'd probably skip converting the freezer. The internals are likely very inefficient and noisy by today's standards. Admittedly the rounded corners are cool, but that will add to the complexity of making a collar for...

No wonder I am having trouble cooling my wort.

I have the same problem in summer so I use tap water through my hydra chiller to get down to 100°. That gets saved for clean-up. Then I switch over to an ice chest with a submersible pump from HF and 10 lbs of ice in water. I'm down to pitching temp in 5-10 minutes.

    Help dialing in BIAB process?

When I first started, my LHBS complained about double-crushing (said it made too much dust) so I bought a Cereal Killer and double-crushed it myself. It made a huge difference. The Wilser bags allow me to go with as fine a crush as I want without worry. I also dunk sparge in a 5 gallon bucket...
