Well 5 days later and there's full fermentation this morning. https://imgur.com/MmPeVGd It took long enough!

    Nottingham Lot 1080486V Exp 08/2016

https://imgur.com/ItT9mZf Just now at about 87 hours I'm getting this in the image with positive airlock pressure as well. Looks like there were at least some viable cells in there... I'll repitch tomorrow if no krausen though, we'll see.

    Nottingham Lot 1080486V Exp 08/2016

I used this in a stout Saturday night. I opened the package and something was off. It was a sour smell but I pitched anyways. I had never used Nottingham before so I didn't think much of it. Looking back this was a bad call, something was wrong with this yeast. It was not a normal yeast smell...

    Double Check

Did a partial boil. Added cold sterile water and an ice bath got me down to upper 60's pretty quick. Using US05, not Belgian stuff :) 6.5 gal fermenter was plenty of space. About to go dry hop right now!

    Double Check

Just bought one of these today with some tubing. Thanks man. I only had kegs before when I stopped, never thought of reducing oxidation during bottle filling.

Can Saison Yeast (3711, Belle) Eat Maltodextrin?

Someone should do a 1 gallon test batch with 3711 and an Maltodextrin-powder-only wort. Test the SG and FG, see if it lowers to any significant degree. OP I nominate you.

Can Saison Yeast (3711, Belle) Eat Maltodextrin?

3711 has always been a beast, and I think many have had the same question in the past, myself included. I've never had bottle bombs from it, but it's always settled out at a very low gravity for me, like 1.005 and under. One time I even got a 1.000 reading.

    Double Check

I will be bottling directly from the primary. Carb drops are dosed per bottle and then filled from the primary spigot. Trying to keep it as minimal, quick, and efficient as possible for the time being.

    Double Check

So this is my first brew day in about 3 years. I used to do AG, but got rid of all my stuff (disarray, suboptimal, infected plastic, etc.) I ordered (for extract brewing: ) 5 Gallon Kettle (have spoon to stir, for partial boil) Funnel with filter (to pour the wort into the fermenter)...

    I'm Back!

Thanks mate! Maybe I was just slow, but all-grain brew days always knocked out 7-8 hours for me. Also I was using a stovetop, so getting a boil going an heating the hot liquor always took forever!

    I'm Back!

After a few years of beer brewing dormancy, I'm back! I used to be such a technical brewer. I need to get new equipment badly and pressed for time, so I'll be brewing again but I will stick to extracts. Man hop prices are way lower than when I was full-throttle. New equipment types (big...
