    Strange Lager Fermentation

It obviously wasn't supposed to go in two days. Warm ferment lager isn't something new, it just appears to be new to you. Your veiled patronizing comments are unwelcome. If you don't have something positive to contribute to the conversation, then please don't comment.

It was a warm ferment. Around 67f

    Strange Lager Fermentation

Ok. I’ve tasted it. It has that coriander/Clove taste that you would expect in a wheat beer. So I’m thinking there was a some wild yeast/infection that got in there.

    Strange Lager Fermentation

I pitched w34/70 into a straightforward allgrain and flake rice lager recipe. Fermentation took off like normal. After 24 hours there was a normal kreusen and everything smelled right coming out of airlock. Went to check it this morning (48 hours in) kreusen is gone and there is simple...

    Rice Flakes

Is there any issue if I boil rice flakes that have been pre cooked?

    How to Reduce “Lacing”

It’s not appealing. It almost looks like soap residue. Perhaps this picture shows the problem better:

    How to Reduce “Lacing”

Hello I have a thick film of foam that clings to the side of the glass from the head. It doesn’t look like “nice” lacing. the beer glass is clean. The recipe had 2 row, Crystal 40 and flaked corn. Mashed at 149, so I don’t think it’s a protein problem. Also, the yeast was Imperial A01 that...

    Rice Flakes

I’m going to do a smaller batch next time with only 10% rice flakes. If I also get no performance out of them a second time, maybe it’s just sawdust that I have

    Cereal Mash for Flaked Grains

They were in my grain bucket at the bottom of the 2 row. So they went into the mash last. Many stirs during the 1 hour boil . The mash was liquidy on the top but turned hard at the bottom. Had a consistency like toothpaste I didn’t crush the rice

    Rice Flakes

My Brewhouse OG should have been around 1043. Instead I ended up with 1035. In BeerSmith, If I simply remove the Flaked Rice from the BeerSmith, it estimates my OG to go down to 1035. Reduction in brewhouse efficiency from 80% down to 65%, on a 10 gallon batch. So, it is as though the rice...

    Cereal Mash for Flaked Grains

I have a Herms system. I use a fly sparge. Perhaps it was channeling. The mash was so dense, I thought I was going to get a stuck sparge, but I didn’t.

    Cereal Mash for Flaked Grains

Here’s what it looks like. I’ve used flaked corn before but I’ve never had this kind of trouble....

    Cereal Mash for Flaked Grains

Could it be that 20% was too much for the base grain to convert? my efficiency dropped from high 70s down to 65%. Also, true mash was extremely tight and difficult to stir.

    Cereal Mash for Flaked Grains

Hello I happen to come across 10 kg of flaked rice.(see photo for label) . So, I made a lager by adding about 20% flaked rice to my mash. The rice seemed to turn to cement and took my efficiency way way down. I’m thinking that next time I will do a cereal mash first. Is there anything...

    Rice Flakes

I used them directly in the mash. I made a 10 gallon batch, and I usually get close to 80% efficiency. My recipe was: 12 lbs 2-row 3 lbs flaked rice Anyhow, it didn't seem to work. My efficiency went way down to 65%. When I put the numbers in BeerSmith, it seems that only the 2 row...
