I have a similar problem. I just made what I thought was 5 gallons of mead in a 7 gallon bucket but when I went to transfer it into my secondary 5 gallon carboy I have about 7 inches of space left. I don't know what to do because I just don't have the space to buy yet another carboy.

I found a recipe for a 5 gallon mead and bought all the ingredients for that. Unfortunately I just realized the Carboy I have is for 6 gallons. Can I make my 5 gallon mead in the carboy that I have or do I need to buy a 5 gallon size?
