I have gone back to the site where I found the info and it doesn't say anything about being bad. It does say it might be a reason why some kombuchas come in a brown bottle—the companies don’t want you to see the sludge. So if it sells it can't be bad.

This post has got me very confused. I have always known its 1 cup of sugar but I never knew about measuring the amount of sugar in my batch.

Looks like a thin slimy scoby. How big is it in size? Have you started a new batch with this scoby?

What made you want to use Ph minus? Had you seen it in a recipe somewhere? On the new batch you started did you use the same scoby? It'd be good to know for those who might end up in your shoes :)
