    Sudden Color Change, Small Strands?

I have gone back to the site where I found the info and it doesn't say anything about being bad. It does say it might be a reason why some kombuchas come in a brown bottle—the companies don’t want you to see the sludge. So if it sells it can't be bad.

    Noobie questions

    Sudden Color Change, Small Strands?

I have had a bit of a Google search about this because it would be good to know for my own benefit and I can across this.. As it develops, the kombucha looks like a cider that has been left out to sit too long, with threads of yeast and bacteria floating around like seaweed and piling up on the...

    Sudden Color Change, Small Strands?

Have you ever heard of vinegar eels? It could be these? they are harmless and nonparasitic but eventually they will start to kill your culture. I didn't know about these until I read somewhere on another kombucha forum and I googled them. Maybe just do a quick google search see if they are...

    Noobie questions

What made you want to use Ph minus? Had you seen it in a recipe somewhere? On the new batch you started did you use the same scoby? It'd be good to know for those who might end up in your shoes :)

How long do you let your scoby in booch?

Did you not get any fruit flys?
  14. Adam_Trainor101

Some mold or not some mold. That is the question.

To me it looks fine. The brown/black bit can be off putting but it does look like yeast. I know I was put off when this happened to me and I googled a few images about yeast in scoby/kombucha tea and the images were similar to yours.

Found a fruit fly in my kombucha...

If it was me I would throw it and start again. Because you found a fruit fly and it left larva behind. But its up to you to take which peoples advice (Keep or not to keep) If it was other fermented food and you found a fly, the question is, would you eat that?

    beginner resources

Superdown has pretty much covered all the points. Very great tips you have given there. Many beginners to kombucha like to start off using black tea or green tea, have you thought about which tea you are going to use first? Like superdown said you can add 1tbsp of apple cider vinegar, but I have...
