first time jumping to this side of the site. i've been brewing wine for a few years now but personally i drink more beer than wine. i've got most of the standard equip. and batched my first batch of beer last week, a true brew canadian ale. got a few questions.

usually i leave wine in the carboy for months to fully settle out. how long should i leave the beer in the primary, should i transfer to secondary to help remove some of the yeasties?

what additional equipment should i be asking for with christmas coming?

any added tips, suggestions, recipe kits that are good would be great.

Thanks
Ben

Short answer:

Primary for 2-3 weeks on the safe end. Use of secondary chamber is hotly debated, some do, some don't. I personally go from primary to bottling.

Helpful items:

Stir plate, O2 delivery system, and some way to control fermentation temperature

Leave in primary for 30 days then rack to secondary if you want to clear or dry hop, soak wood chips, etc..

Ask for a couple of good brewing books (research this) for Xmas.
