I've always sort of wondered this. For Wyeast 1056/WLP 001, do you think they just cultured it from bottles of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale? And for 1968/wlp002, did they just get it from some cask ale in England? Or, do the breweries pass the yeast on to the suppliers, and work out some sort of deal (like, you bank it for us for free and you can sell it).
