I generally make simple extract kits. I don't use a secondary fetmenter because I don't usually need to dry hop or age extensively. 3 or 4 weeks primary is enough. However, im now making a stout that was 1070 og. It specifically calls for 4 weeks secondary. Is this a reason to actually do that or can I still just primary for 3 or 4 weeks?

maybe 4-5 weeks? I do my 1.060 beers for 4 weeks, longer if I dont have time to bottle. Others will say 4 weeks is fine, some might say 6 weeks or more and yet others will say to secondary for 4 weeks...or even longer... :mug:
Isn't beer brewing great!!!

I don't see any reason for bulk aging a stout that is 1.070 OG.

I'd probably ferment it, let it clear, and then age in the bottle if aging is still needed.
