Hi All,

My brother and I started up a YouTube channel to review beers, talk about homebrewing, and pretty much just to have fun. :tank: We just finished a video which shows how to convert a 5 gallon beverage cooler to an electric HLT.

Let us know what you think. Constructive feedback is always welcome. Also be sure to check out our other videos on our YouTube Channel for some interesting beer reviews.

Any thoughts of adding a temp controller like a STC-1000 or similar? Then you don't have to monitor the temp while doing everything else when it comes to brew day. Great idea, i'd love to see a video of it in use.

Great idea! I'll add that to my list of future mods, and maybe even a video. We did use it for an oatmeal stout and it worked like a champ. We will make sure to have a video of it in use. Thanks for viewing!

Can you list the actual parts that you used? For example, you show a copper part that you call a 'nut', but it is a threaded piece of copper tubing.

Thanks

Here is the parts list:

  • 5 Gallon Insulated beverage cooler
  • 6' Extension cord or power cable with 3rd prong
  • Resin Core solder (with higher wattage iron)
  • 1500-Watt 120-Volt Screw-In Type High Watt Density Water Heater Element
  • Copper nut or short threaded pipe to fit on the heating element (I did a test fit at Home Depot with the Camco brand element)
  • Aquarium or waterproof acrylic sealant
  • "Kettlevalve" Ball valve
