I had this beer that other week and loved it so I decided to try and replicate it. 3Floyds doesn't give out any info about recipes so I am punting here but one thing I don't have any clues about is the oak. Will 2 ounces of oak chips for just a few days give very much oak flavor?

Here's a link to the beer's page at 3F

http://www.3floyds.com/beer/blackheart/

I'm not going for a 8.5% abv liek the original , thinking about shooting for more like 5.5%.

10# Maris Otter (good biscuity malty back bone)
.75# Crystal 120 (for color and a little sweetness)
.5 Flaked Wheat (for mouthfeel)

.75 EKG @FWH
.75 Chinook @60
2 EKG Dry Hop 5 days

Windsor Dry yeast

2 oz Light Oak Chips 5 days (concurrent with dry hop)

Any thoughts or suggestions. The main thing is the oak. I've never used it. If you didn't know it was oaked you might not pick it out, I thought it was very subtle (well as subtle as anything 3Floyds does).

Thanks for any advice!!!

IME, youll need 4oz or more of oak chips to get noticeable oak character, especially in a big stout. If i were you, id look into oak spirals. They are supposed to have a better deeper oak flavor than chips. Closer to an actual barrel
