This tip is for brewers who use a large pot for their mashes (instead of a cooler):
I have a 10 gal pot and a temperature gage with a 12" long shaft (not bragging, just fact...).
Taking temperature readings during the mash process involves the simple task of removing the lid and placing the gage in the wort and waiting for the needle to move.
To simplify this process I drilled a hole in the lid just slightly larger than the shaft on the gage. Now it just sits in there giving me a constant temp reading.
