My friend Jeff from work, a very experienced brewer, helped me with my first A/G batch. I had asked to borrow his Mash Tun and Keggle. He offered to deliver them to me and hang out to help.
We decided to do a Porter-ish brew.
My grain bill was;
10# domestic 2-row
8-oz Roasted Barley
7.6-oz Cara Aroma
4-oz Chocolate Malt
3-oz Acid Malt
4-oz Flaked Barley
Mashed at 150-deg for 60 minutes
Recycled 10-gallons wort through the tun.
Drained, then sparged 5 gallons of 170-deg water from my new Electric HLT.
We did a 90-min boil.
Added 1-oz Fuggle at 60-min
1/2-oz Northern Brewer at 30-min
1/2-oz Northern Brewer at 15-min, with Gypsum and Irish Moss.
We pitched the Safale Yeast at 1.050 OG.
I just racked the brew to my secondary, yesterday at 1.009
I'll bottle it after seven days in the secondary.
This was a really fun process! I have just completed building my own Cooler Tun.
I have the parts to build a keggle, so, I guess I'm going to learn All Grain!
Thanks to all here for getting me hooked!
