Who else is loving the IPA book by Mitch Steele? So this clone attempt will probably be happening next week. This clone is pretty close to how he calls for the recipe in the book, minus some temp controlled dry hopping that i cannot achieve with my setup. This is for a 4 (yes 4) gallon batch. Feedback is always welcome :)

This is a BIAB batch btw!

Well it's brew day! I'll be mashing in about 4ish hours from now. Made a 1.5L starter for this small beast of a beer. If i can remember to I'll take more pictures and post them as I go.

hops seem pretty low for 4gal. i hope this works out but i'd expect more at flameout and the dry hop for anything from stone

I set my hop schedule according to the ipa book mitch put out. The dry hop is different based on my equipment. I think it says 10 days 60F and then to crash at 34F

So brew day went well and now I have it in the secondary dry hopping. I'll probably be bottling this within the next 4-5 days hopefully. I want this thing fresh! I did however overshoot the gravity by about 8 points, so didn't ferment down as far as I'd have wanted it to. It stopped at 1.020, even with some yeast cake rousing. It still tastes pretty good though! I'll put some tasting notes up when it's bottled and carbed. I plan on doing a side by side with the real deal as well. Do you guys think I should add yeast during bottling? Thanks and cheers!

Looking forward to hearing the tasting notes as this is one of my all time favorites. Perhaps I will use this recipe in my next batch after my amber.

I've tasted a couple of bottles so far and it's not bad. ddrrseio was definitely right about not having enough hops in there. I believe I had a silly miscalculation with the hop percentages, but it's ok, i'll just make more! I bottled it about 10ish days ago and it's almost carbed completely. It has a slight alcohol character but nothing to complain about. I'm sure in another week or 2 it will mellow out. I guess I could call this an imperial black ale haha. It's pretty tasty though! Other than hops, any suggestions out there for the next time this gets brewed?
