I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I'm about to move to a place with more space for brewing so I'm keeping an eye out for deals. One thing I need is a stirplate. So in the course of checking the university surplus auctions for one, I saw this orbital shaker.
The site says:
Orbit Shaker
Features RPM gauge (0-400)
"Dimmer" dial for shaking strength
Specimen platform features "grip-it" type material
Dimensions/specimen platform: 13" x 11.5"
Model #3520
Serial #0786-0112
Manufactured by Lab-Line Instruments
120 volts
100 watts
0.9 amps
Unit size: 7" H x 11.5" W x 14" D
Cosmetic condition: fair, much showable wear
Tested and works, powered on, platform commenced shaking
Two types of operation:
Constant, continuous
Timed (0-60 minutes)
This is basically what it does:
You guys think this could be used in place of a stirplate? It seems to me (and I am pretty much talking out my ass) that it would oxygenate and keep the yeast in suspension just as well...and I could probably fit a huge starter on that bad boy. Any thoughts or musings welcome.
