Hey everyone. I haven't had time to brew in a few months but FINALLY had time to do a partial extract this morning.

I got everything ready...everything was going smooth, until.....I went to remove the plate that I placed on the bottom of my kettle to keep the steeping grains from burning on the bottom.

It was not coming off without force so I ended up pouring the wort into several smaller pots that I had. I ended up having to break the damn thing with a hammer. After making sure I cleaned out the kettle really well I dumped the wort back in and continued on. I'm assuming I created a pretty good vacuum between the kettle and pot for this to happen.

Anyways, lesson learnt and I figure I'll call this one Broken glass brown ale.

Might want to consider mashing in a pre-heated oven. Holds temp great, no need to direct fire the mash, no scorching of the bag or grains.
