Something strange happened to a split batch of triple Belgian double IPA! I brew with a friend and we do full boils of 10 gallons, then split the batch into 2 carboys then pitch the yeast. We brewed just our second batch and everything went well. The fermenters are kept side by side in the same room, same temp/conditions. The 2 vessels appeared identical for 13-14 days. They took off at the same time and rate after pitching and seemed to ferment perfectly symmetrically. They had same kind of yeast, although 2 different starters. After 2 weeks one of the carboys became more amber/red in color, the other stayed lightly golden like a usual Belgian. The good news is that when we racked to secondary at 18 days, they both had FGs of 1.05 and 1.00, and they both tasted AWESOME. Is this strange? Could there be a contaminant? Again, the only difference was the starters were in 2 different vessels. Thanks for any guidance/info. I just love this forum!
