I am familiar with partiyle style brewing but I'm wondering how different a brew can be with only varying the yeast? Basically, I want to avoid having to do separate boils which I understand limits the variables. Are there styles better suited for this experiment?

Its a good way to see what yeast you prefer for a style. A good one to do split batches with are English ales, there are so many different yeasts available its fun to side by side them. I will split batches to make funky beers, like do a Belgian specialty that I finish half with brett for an Orvalle clone. You can also use them to play with dry hopping as varying the dry hops and time being dry hopped can make a completely different beer.
