I'm looking to work on switching to electric brewing and am thinking about drilling my 40Q aluminum kettle to add an electric element and thermowell. The goal is to add a 5500W element with a PID controller to use as a HLT and Brew Kettle. This should allow me to shorten my brew day by using electric to get to a boil faster, and allow flexibility for me to expand to a full HERMS in the future. The question I have revolves around my kettle, I'm using a thickwall (3/16) and it's not clear if the element I want to use (camco 02963) will go in with enough room to add a nut on the inside to hole it on. From the pictures I'm seeing on SS kettles it doesn't look like it will fit. Any thoughts? or advice?
