Hi all I did a stout kit ( richies simply stout). I added 1kg sugar and o.g. was 1062. I did an s.g. 4 days later its now 0990. According to my calculations it's over 9%. Any opinions out there greatly appreciated. I feel it's a lot on the high side. And any further advice on bottling using 500 ml bottles thanks people. By the way it's my first stout.

Was your sample really warm? I've never had a beer show under 1.004, unless it was too hot. Hydrometers are usually calibrated for about 20C around 70F(?)

Very unusual for any stout to finish at less than 1.012 in my experience.

I was thinking something was up thanks ill persevere and see if I can recalibrate my hydrometer. Nothing was too hot the sample I just took was 22 degrees

All looks good and tastes great so far the hydrometer I used is the plastic one that comes with a coopers diy kit. Thanks for the replies guys
