I'd like a way to accurately measure my pre and post boil volumes as well as what's left in the kettle.

I read that sight glasses get gunky on a brew kettle and I can see that happening. Is that your experience with them?

If I wanted to use a dip stick, but mount it to the inside of the kettle, how'd I do that. would it be a really thick copper wire that I graduate, like a grounding wire, or something else work better? How would I mount it to the inside of the kettle?

Any stick, wire etc will work just fine.

If you used a wire, you could just bend the end and let it hang on the kettle.

I brewed with a guy once that just used a metal yardstick and measured from the top of the kettle down to the wort level. Instead of trying to measure how much wort was in the kettle, he tracked the opposite and never touched the wort.
