So you read, study and swear you will not make the first timer mistakes but of course you do.

I am pretty satisfied on everything on my first brew except for taking the OG. About the time I added the rehydrated yeast it hit me. So, within a couple minutes I got the sample from as deep in the bucket as I could. The OG hit spot on but I have to be curious, how much influence would the yeast have within the first few minutes?

Basically, for the first 3-15 hours, your little yeastie friends are sucking up oxygen and nutrients. Once they're done with this, they begin consuming sugar and reproducing and all that good stuff.
