IMO yes they are worth the investment. However the flow rate is extremely low and it will take hours to fill your HLT. Depending on the unit they expell approximately 9 gallons into the drain for each one gallon of properly filtered drinking water produced. Due to the quantity of plastic particals in bottled water and the alarming amount of dangerous chemicals in public drinking water this type filtration system provides good clean drinking water for you and your family. For brewing a reverse osmosis system isn't necessary. Duel cartridge filters can produce acceptable brewing water. You should have your water tested to determine the best micron filters to obtain the best water for your brewing needs.
