Anyone else have this and have you had any luck getting relief? I would get it sometimes when I was younger and went to concerts or when I am in a bar with a lot of people and loud music but I really haven't done much of either for a long time. But it would go away by the next day. Started out of the blue about 2 years ago about the same time I brought a chain saw and was splitting a lot of wood with a wedge. Went to the doctors (family practice HMO) and explained all this to him and all he said was a lot of men get this as they get older and that he has it too. But mine is getting louder and I can hear it even with noise in the room. It NEVER stops. Sometimes I want to stick pencils in ears to make it go away it is so bad.

Are you on any meds? I take ASA for my circulation and ever since I started, I've had it :(

Yes, and some I started about then when we moved in together (same time) because she has 2 cats and I had to go on algery medicine.

Sometimes it's as simple as the poison we take everyday. Until October, I have to takes these and other meds which I know my body doesn't like.

Mine started almost 30 years ago. I feel that it started from listening to music while commuting on the bus to work. The bus was so loud that I had to turn up the music real loud. I went to the doctor and they confirmed that it was tinnitus and there was nothing that they could do for it. Over the years, I have just learned to live with it. It is only most noticeable when it is real quiet, no other noises. I do know someone who had it real bad and had surgery to relieve it. I don't know if that was successful or not.

I got it bad, I think I need to go to the doctor. My ears started ringing after a Day on the Green concert in 1992 and I have not heard silence since. Concerts, shooting, motorcycle riding, none of my hobbies are quiet. I wear two ear plugs when I go shooting now but even riding with ear plugs still bothers my ears. They need to come up with a miracle cure!:(

Mine started in one ear in my late 20's, and eventually went to both ears. It has been constant and unrelenting and worsening for 20 years. Eventually I also suffered actual hearing loss to accompany it and started wearing small hearing aids in my late 30's. I saw a number of ENT specialists, but none had any solution to offer (though they tried a few things such a steroids, etc) beyond the assistance of hearing aids. I get along fine with the aids, but without them I'd always be saying, "Huh? What?"

Whether there's any relief for you is dependent on the cause of your tinnitus. If you've not already done so, get yourself to an ENT for testing beyond what a Family Practice guy would do.

My hearing is still very good thank god, but I can't tolerate loud noises anymore unless it is music I like. Next time I see him I will complain again and hopefully he will give me a referral for a ENT.

I used to go to drag races, you know the summer nationals with top fuel and funny cars, and man those cars are loud. Not sure what that would do to me now, maybe better off not going to them again, at least not without protection but to me you have to feel the whole experience. Sometimes I get into the mood to listen to music and I use headphones so not to wake my girlfriend. That can go on for 6 hours and the next day the ringing is real bad. Probably need to give that up too, this sucks.

Don't give it up, just turn it down. I only listen to loud music in my car now but I used to do the headphones thing also.
Now and then I'll put a concert on DVD and surround sound and crank it up with a nice homebrew in hand. Life is good :)

You should consider getting your hearing tested. It's not expensive and they can tell you if it's related to ear damage or something else.

I have had it several years, more in my left ear, and slightly in my right. It hasn't affected my day to day, but maybe a white noise generator would help. Or, as @Rish mentioned, a fan for background noise, which does kind of the same thing. Something to distract the mind for a while until you drift off.

I sometimes have insomnia, which may or may not be related to the tinnitus. I've had good luck with some of the "space ambient" stuff on YouTube. I run it through bluetooth headphones (which makes side-sleeping a challenge), but back sleeping works OK for me. Some of those run 8 hours, but I'm usually out in an hour or two. Experiment a little, maybe sounds of rainfall, quiet stream, etc., could be what works for you.

I am on my second set of ear tubes, you know the ones kids get because of ear infections. never had any ear infection. reason they are there was eustachian (how ever its spelled) stop working and was lots pressure behind the ear drums and about to explode. at the time of this my right ear was no longer existent; got diagnosed with asthma got put on singulair. that helped with asthma and all but ears still messed even after ear tubes and the dizziness and vertigo at times would put me down.

now my right ear is coming back but the left ear is now terrible. i have hearing aids and at times the ringing is so loud does not matter how loud i turn up the hearing aids i cant understand the sounds coming in. there are some days when both ears come back online and don't need hearing aids.

the ENT just says that is strange with no actual solutions.

i am probably $15,000 in this ordeal with MRI and multiple surgeries etc. There really is no solution as it is a nerve thing and tricky.

anyway i have now split with the wife and no longer need allergy meds or asthma inhalers. the ears seem to be having better days but still mostly unable to have any sort of conversation with anyone when in a somewhat noisy area.

hope the best for you as i don't wish this upon anybody. mine really started to get bad at beginning of 2019. i went from being able to tell if you were taking a fork spoon or knife out the drawer from two rooms away to not hearing me pull my zipper up.

I am stubborn and don't give up easily and its best not to get depressed about it. does make life tough but i think there are still worst things i could be dealing with.

10 years in the Infantry, I don't think I heard your question over the ringing in my ears...
