Regulator part identification help-IDENTIFIED

First time setting up my regulator(that didn't come with instructions) and this was in the box with it. Anyone know what this is and where I need to put it?

i have never seen something like that for a regulator? is this a rebuild kit?

It's a sintered brass filter. Should go on the input side...

what does it do?

It does what any sintered brass filter that goes on the input to something does.
It captures crap - in this case rather than let it get pinched in the pin valve.
On my small engine carburetors they keep crap from jamming up the needle valves...

I put it in the intake hole and then panicked and removed it in case I was wrong and it got stuck. I'll put it back in there, thanks!
