I am trying to clone, or come close to, Sea Monster Imp. Stout from Ballast Point. Most of this recipe is from Homebrewmart.com which is run by Ballast Point. It is for an Imperial Stout, but not necessarily a clone for it. I added a couple lbs. of oats because of my percieved mouthfeel from the real thing. I need some help with this one. Any input is greatly appreciated.

i searched for clone information after having one tonight and contacting the brewery for feedback on a prospective sea monster-inspired recipe i put together.

this comes across as the smoothest RIS i've ever had. while i occasionally want a coffee/raisin bomb, this one is all chocolate and mild caramel. while not syrupy, it has a decent silky quality, which i also figured must come from a generous hit of oats.

my recipe looks shockingly close to yours...

18lb pale malt
2lb chocolate malt
2lb flaked oats
1lb caramunich

nugget at 60, 20, 15 to hit 65 IBU

ferment with WL007

expected OG: 1094
expected FG: 1018
expected ABV: 10.1%

i could see the case for swapping some chocolate for roasted barley, but i wouldn't change too much else. i found the recipe you referenced now (http://homebrewmart.com/recipes_beer.php#ImperialStout) and am pretty intrigued. maybe i'll brew that one and the one i wrote, too.
