I know this has been covered before, but wanted to hear the most current opinion on this..
brewed a cream ale (og 1.049) two weeks 16 days ago with WLP 001 Cali Ale- made starter, oxgenated, good fermentation. racked into a keg to condition from the carboy 2 days ago. nice yeast cake on the bottom of carboy and left 1-2 inches of beer on top. Covered back up with airlock. Fermentation temp of the cream ale was 70F, and cake is sitting at room temp, say 68F right now.
I want to brew today and use some slurry for an APA.
Can I take a cup or so from the carboy and pitch to the APA?? Or is this really sloppy bad practice :(
thanks for the insight.

As long as you sanitize everything in contact, your plan is perfectly fine.
You can check Mr. Malty to find out how much of that slurry to use, if you want.
I did the same thing yesterday. Mr. Malty said I needed about 112 ml of slurry. I pitched the bottom 2 inches of slurry from 2 mason jars I harvested the day before(probably closer to 200ml, but better a little more than less I figured). Didn't wash it, just pitched. She's a-bubbling today.

Yeah, you're fine. I agree with JimRausch in that sanitation is important in this process and using a pitch calculator is helpful. Often times I'm lazy and just rack the new beer onto the entire cake from the previous batch. This is probably overpitching, but haven't had any problems from it, and it eliminates extra sanitation steps.
