Making our annual trip to Philly this weekend and looking for some suggestions to get some good brews. We're staying near Penn's Landing, and mostly walk so places in the general center city/old city area. Been to Nodding Head, Triumph, Eulogy, just looking for any new gems or ones we've might've missed. TIA!

Tria and Monk's are both worth a stop. Monk's has a really deep bottle list, worth spurging if there is something you have been looking to dry (vintage lambics etc...). Food at Tria was pretty good, beer list isn't huge, but it is really smart.

I second Monks. Not from Philly, but have done some work out there over the last few months. Last time I was out there (mid June) I stopped in at Monks. Pretty cool atmosphere, and as mentioned, an extensive list of bottles! You wont be disappointed.

Also, Yards Brewery. I did not have a chance to go and tour due to work, however I did have their IPA at a bar while I was out there, pretty tasty. I would imagine it would be worth a stop if you have time.

Walking distance from Penn's Landing:
- Khyber Pass Pub (one of the oldest bars in the city) on 2nd and Chestnut.
- Race Street Cafe on 2nd and Race has good selection of beers and pretty good food. And no, don't let the name fool you, it is a bar rather than a cafe.
- Mac's Tavern on Market St between 2nd and 3rd

Further away:
-Pub and Kitchen on 20th (?) and Lombard
-Tangier 18th and Lombard
-Ten Stone 21st and South St

Another suggestion I have is to get on the 48 bus from Penns Landing and ride it to the Fairmount section of the city (around 22nd and Fairmount Ave). There you'll find Rembrandts, London Grill, Bishops Collar and Bridgids within four blocks from each other.

From Penn's Landing, you are not far from Yards Brewing Company. Here's [ame="http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Penn%27s+Landing,+Philadelphia,+PA&daddr=Yards+Brewing+Company,+North+Delaware+Avenue,+Philadelphia,+PA&hl=en&ll=39.955182,-75.129533&spn=0.027206,0.039825&sll=39.945641,-75.140734&sspn=0.027209,0.039825&geocode=FaiFYQIdkHGF-ymLzvBGkMjGiTFmQGsFhl933A%3BFUTHYQId-4OF-yFHZpmce0TKBylr1luRZsjGiTEb6ffFK3VkjA&mra=ls&z=15"]directions[/ame].

(And that puts you right next to Sugarhouse Casino, if that's your thing...)

It's a neat brewery with great people and I'm a fan of their beer. Tours are Saturday afternoons, the tasting room has hours every day.

Philly Brewing Company also has Saturday afternoon tours, and while I can vouch for their beer, I've never seen the brewery.

Sounds like you've been to a lot of the big names. Just around the corner from Eulogy is the (Beneluxx Tasting Room ). It's a sibling establishment, a little basement place with a tasty beer menu (trending toward Belgians). They will bring you tasting portions of beer, cheese, and chocolate.

Venturing west toward Center City, the new hotness is The Farmers Cabinet on Walnut between 11th and 12th. The place is new, and it looks like they spent a ton of money to make it look old. Every single person that's been just says "They have a ridiculous beer list" and it's true (in a good way). They get bonus points from me for bringing in the former brewer from the Bullfrog Brewery in my hometown, but I don't think their in-house beers are on-line just yet. Food their is pricey and has been a mixed bag, but it's worth stopping by just for a full list of taps from breweries you've never heard of before.

Personal favorite - Varga Bar at 10th and Spruce. I lived three doors down from this place until two weeks ago. Do not let the decor or website fool you, this is as honest a craft beer bar as I've ever been to. It just looks like somewhere that only wants to serve you fancy mixed drinks. About 20 taps, two casks, and bottles all of high quality mostly American craft beers and constantly changing. If you're in town already, they have Monday-Friday happy hour from 4-6pm with all drinks at half price. If a bald guy is tending bar, say hi to Big Rich for me. The food is excellent as well, and the kitchen takes orders till 1am.

Moving on, the beer list at McGillians is nothing special (it's ok, the competition is just so good) and it's kind of in an alley, but you asked about pubs and this place has been around longer than any of them. Weekend crowd skews a bit much toward college/annoying but it's still worth stopping in.

If you care to venture north instead of west from Penns Landing, you'll find yourself in up and coming Northern Liberties. Second Street is where the action is, and you'll want to stop by Standard Tap. They run a top-notch selection of largely local taps and I'll give my props to their food as well. They're across the street from the Foodery which sells individual and mixed 6 packs from a huge bottle list. Costs a pretty penny, but if there is something you've been looking to try, it'll cost less than the same bottle at a bar.

That should keep you busy.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks, this ought to give us some choices. Cheers!

If you have a car I suggest Earth Bread & Brewery up in Mt. Airy...they have some great brews and also make a killer flatbread pizza. I'd also recommend Victory, but if you're from Lancaster you may have already been down there.
