I have a Pale Ale recipe with a set grain bill, but I always seem to adjust the hops. It's a nice, light but flavorful malt profile that I really like.
This is my first time trying Citra. I have heard that Citra can overpower the other hops, so want to "babystep" into it by splitting 1 oz between a flavor addition and flameout addition. Here's what I have for a 6 gallon recipe (5 into keg):
Hops:
1.00 oz Centennial [9.50 %] (60 min) @ 28.6 IBU
0.50 oz Citra [12.50 %] (15 min) @ 9.3 IBU
0.50 oz Citra [12.50 %] (0 min)
1.00 oz Centennial [10.00 %] (0 min)
1.00 oz Amarillo [8.80 %] (0 min)
1.00 oz Amarillo [8.80 %] (Dry Hop 5 days)
Here's the rest of the recipe:
6.50 lb US 2-Row Pale Malt 54.95 %
3.00 lb German Pilsner Grain 25.36 %
1.00 lb Vienna Malt 8.45 %
0.50 lb CaraHelles - 11L 4.23 %
0.50 lb White Wheat Malt 4.23 %
0.33 lb Victory Malt 2.79 %
1 Pkg American Ale (Wyeast Labs #1056) [Starter 150 ml] Yeast-Ale
OG: 1.054 SG
Est FG: 1.013 SG
Bitterness (Rager): 37.9 IBU
Est Color: 5.2 SRM
Thoughts on my attempt to get SOME Citra flavor, but not blow everything else away?
Thanks.
