Get the water out as best you can without working too hard and call it good. It's a mash tun, there will be all sorts of nasty stuff already in the mash from the grain. That's why we boil it afterward. A little moldy water won't be a problem.

That hole is actually external from the mash tun when you seal the lid. It's outside of the threads. Just try to avoid dripping any water from it into your mash. Even if some did get in there, it would be a fairly small volume and anything living would be pretty much pasteurized during mashing or boiled during the boil.

Leave it outside in the sun for a while and water from within will evaporate out of the weep hole. The hole is there to account for expansion/contraction of the air inside the lid.

Ahh, okay. So really, there's nothing to worry about?

No, there are many things to be worried about, including the presidential election in the US, the global economy, etc.

But with regard to your lid, not really. :)

If you can flex the lid at all to move air in and out, you might try pressing in on the center of the lid and submerging the hole in a shallow wide pan of star San solution, releasing the pressure and drawing some star San inside the lid. Swish around to sanitize inside then expel it. That should cut down on any nasties growing in there.

Or use a cattle syringe from the farm supply store.

If it were me i would squeeze the water out and call it good.
