i have an english recipe calling for oat husks and an american recipe asking for flaked oats, is there a difference? i didnt know oats had husks?
the grain bill is this, why are oat husks added then?Totally different. Oat husks are the English equivalent to rice hills and used the same way. It's just to make laundering easy and is only really required when using large amounts of huskless grains or adjunt like wheat or rye. Even then it isn't normally required as it all depends on % of the grain bill that is huskless and the type of run.
Flaked oats are exactly that, same stuff you buy to make porridge or flapjacks. They don't have husks, so you might use oats husks in that instance.
The husks otherwise add no flavor or extract.
also if im BIABing do i need them?the grain bill is this, why are oat husks added then?
Grain bill: Pale Malt 3.5kg, dry bread 1.5Kg (equivalent to 2.5kg fresh bread), CaraMalt 150g, Munich Malt 150g, Oat Husks 500g
Because of the dry bread presumably as that will gum up the tun.the grain bill is this, why are oat husks added then?
