Not sure if this goes here or in brew science, or if this has been done before.

Molasses i believe if it is the unrefined kind can be used in place of DME for an agar recipe. After I add Yeast nutrient i think this will be an interesting experiment. I've never cultured yeast the regular way and this will be my first time doing either. I figure it will look cool at least to have the yeast growing on a black molasses background.

Both DME and unrefined Molasses have a fair amount of nutrients for the yeast to grow and alot of sugar. I'll post up pictures of what this looks like, if anyone else things this is a cool idea.

Here are my recipes i plan to follow

Agar Recipe

100 ml water
1 tsp DME
Pinch of Yeast nutrient
3g agar

Molasses recipe

100 ml water
1 tsp Blackstrap Molasses
2 Pinches of Yeast nutrient
3g agar
