I'm ready to step up to AG, I already have a 5 gallon built, but after doing some research, I'm gonna need a bigger one. I seen a 48 quart Coleman cooler @ Wally's for $19.99 & it came with two bonuses. My question is.... Will the 48 quart be big enough for higher gravity brews? Don't wanna waste more money on a ten gallon. Thanks for any & all help!!! Sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot!!!

I have a 52qt and I think it's a perfect balance between being able to do big 5 gallon batches, and still-pretty-big 10-gallon batches. Check out this post for some more discussion: How Big Your Mash Tun Needs To Be

There's a nice comparison table in that thread.

48 should be perfect for 5 gal batches. I have a 36qt, and I can get 6 gals of 1.085 wort post boil. If I need to go bigger I add a little DME, or sugar.
