I was at my LHBS and looking for carapils and it was called something else. They had bins with grains that were marked "previously known as..."

There are a lot of maltsters that make similar products with different names. Maybe your LHBS changed their supplier recently?

is there a listing of comparisons between the different malts from the various maltsters?

The wiki pages for the malts are pretty good about mentioning comparable products. The malt chart has convenient access to all (or almost all?) of them from one location, if you get sick of searching through it.
