Anybody have any numbers on wort loss with a Hop Rocket.

I have a March Pump with a 30 plate cooler and about 5-6 ft of 1/2 silicone tubing.

I started the boil with 8 gallons but it looks like I lost more than I expected.

Cheers!

It will depend on how much hops you have in the hop rocket. I believe I measured about a quart of liquid remaining in the hop rocker after running water through a hop rocket fully packed with rice hulls. You also need to consider the wort that the hops absorb.

To minimize wort loss I do the following: After draining the kettle, I close the kettle valve, raise the hop rocket over my plate chiller, and then rotate the hop rocket so the output is down. This drains the last part of the wort through the hops.
