Already got a packet of yeast and an airlock in the mail this week.

Can anyone recommend a good beginning guide to brewing?

Would rather start the hard way as opposed to the easy way. No kits plz.

Been combing threads and there is a lot of terminology that is unfamiliar.

WTF is 6 row?

6 Row is a type of Barley.

Welcome aboard, and keep reading all you can, and if your friend makes good beer then you need to have him on hand when you make your first brew! You'll be miles ahead of most brewers if you've got an experienced person to help you by your side when you start making your own beer. It's also likely that he'll bring some of that IPA over for brewday as well, so there's that.
